You can step back in time in Reader, Arkansas. The remnants of the Reader Railroad are slowly being disassembled and sold off to interested parties. There wasn't anyone there to talk to so I just walked through the shop area and then drove over to the turntable which sits along the highway about 5 miles from the shops. To see what's currently happening with the Reader, check out their web site - Reader Railroad . com.
This depot was originally on the MP at Whelen Springs, AR then moved to Gum Springs, AR and finally purchased by the Reader Railroad for use at Waterloo, Arkansas. It is now at Reader.

This "streamlined" motorized car was used to haul passengers and LCL freight.

The hand turned turntable is still in place though it is coming apart. The pole sticking up is where you would push the table around once the locomotive was balanced on it. The switch machine looking equipment is the locking mechanisim that would line the tracks up and hold them in line while the engine was put on or off the table.
